The BLACK FOREST ROTHAUS SINGLE MALT WHISKEY from the partnership between the Badischen Staatsbrauerei ROTHAUS and the Kammer-Kirsch distillery is being produced for the first time since 2006. Both companies were once owned by the Grand Duchy of Baden. Another similarity: the raw materials water and malt are needed both for brewing beer and for producing single malt whiskey. Local brewing malt is mashed with the particularly soft Rothaus brewing water in the copper brewing kettles of the Rothaus brewery, refined and the wort obtained is fermented into alcohol. In an aroma-preserving process, it is then distilled twice in small copper stills in the Kammer-Kirsch distillery in Karlsruhe. Until its completion, the whiskey matures there for at least three years in ex-bourbon barrels made of white oak and 2nd-filled Highland malt barrels.
